Princeton Üniversitesi Edna Golandsky Taubman Sempozyumu | 3. Gün

Bugün sempozyumun üçüncü günüydü, ama bugün ağırlıklı olarak kampüsten, havadan ve çevreden bahsedeceğim. Bol bol da resim olacak.

Today was the third day of the symposium but this time, I’ll be focusing on the campus, weather and the surroundings. Also there’ll be a lot of photos today. İlk önce merkez olarak sayabileceğimiz “Woolworth” binasından başlayalım. Bu bina aslında Princeton Üniversitesinin müzik bölümüne ait ama Golandsky piyano sempozyumu kapsamında bizlerin çalışabilmesi için ayrılan çalışma odaları var, dolayısıyla günümüzün çoğu burada geçiyor.

I’d like to start with “Woolworth” building. This building is actually the center of musical studies in Princeton University, but there are rooms for Golandsky symposium’s students for studying, so I can say we spend a large amount of time here. Burası ise ikinci merkez diyebileceğimiz “McCormick Auditorium”. Burası aslında Princeton Üniv. arkeoloji bölümü ana binası ve aynı zamanda sanat müzesi. Ancak içeride bir salon var ve epey büyük, işte McCormick orası. Bütün toplu dersler, seminerler, masterclasslar orada yapılıyor.

This is the “McCormick Auditorium”. The building itself is actually the center of archeological studies and also the Princeton University Art Museum, but there’s a concert hall in there, and that’s what the McCormick is. All the masterclasses and lectures are given here.

Bu aslında çok hoşuma gittiği için çektiğim bir şey. Mimarlık binasının önündeki bank zaten ilk bakışta “Beni mimarlar yaptı” diyor.

I took a photo of this bench because I liked it so much. It’s in the garden of central architectural studies, you can hear it shouting “I was built by architectures”.

Burası ilk gün Ilya Itin’in konserini verdiği Richardson Auditorium, ama asıl çekmek istediğim turistler. Kampüsün her tarafında gruplar halinde turistler görüyorum. Hakikaten de tarihi değerleri yüksek bir kampüs. Aslında üniversiteye alıcı gözüyle de bakıyor olabilirler.

This place is the Richardson Auditorium, the hall which Ilya Itin played in the first day, but the actual thing I wanted to shoot here were the tourists. I see groups of tourists everywhere in the campus. It’s actually a sightsee-worthy place.

Hava bir yağmurlu bir güneşli seyrediyor. Ancak bu dengesizliğin bir bedeli var: NEM. Ben bu kadar nemli bir hava görmedim. Resmen ellerimiz ıslanıyor ve nefes almak güçleşiyor. Sanırım bir nedeni de ormanlık alanların fazlalığı.

The weather is sunny and rainy. But this instability has a painful result: HUMIDITY. I’ve never seen a weather this humid. My hands are literally getting wet, and it’s hard to even breath. I think it’s also because of the trees and bushes which are all over the city.

Onlar aslında mezun olan sınıfların diktiği sarmaşıklar. Her sene mezun olan sınıf bir sarmaşık dikiyor. O sarmaşıklar zaman içinde büyüyerek binayı sarmışlar. Plakalarda da hangi yılın mezunları oldukları yazıyor.  Bu artık gelenek olmuş.

They are actually planted by graduates. Every year, the graduates of that year plant a vine. Those vines grew up and covered up the building. This is traditional.

Her gün önünden geçtiğimiz üniversitenin kilisesi, dünyanın en güzel üniversite kiliseleri listelerinde yer alıyor.

The university chapel we walk past everyday is on the “best chapels of the world” list.

Her yerin sincap kaynadığını da söylemek lazım. Hatta bir keresinde rakun bile gördük.

I think I have to say there are squirrels everywhere. I even saw a racoon once.
